Sandakphu, the highest peak in West Bengal (3,636m / 11,941 ft), is located in the Singalila National Park along the India-Nepal border. It offers panoramic views of four of the world’s tallest peaks – Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu.
Spring (March to May): Rhododendrons and magnolias bloom, making the trail colorful. Autumn (October to December): Clear skies with the best mountain views. Winter (January to February): Snow-covered trails but extremely cold.
The trek is moderate in difficulty. It involves long walking hours (6-7 hours per day) and gradual ascents, but no technical climbing. Good fitness is required.
You need an entry permit for Singalila National Park, which can be obtained at Manebhanjan.
