Yelbong is a hidden gem in North Bengal, located near Kalimpong. It is known for its beautiful trekking trails, waterfalls, dense forests, and the famous Yelbong Canyon.
The Yelbong trek is an offbeat adventure featuring: A scenic jungle trail with lush greenery. The stunning Yelbong Canyon, a natural rock formation with a flowing river. Hidden waterfalls and caves. A peaceful, less-explored trekking route.
It is an easy to moderate trek, suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers.
Trek duration: Around 2–3 hours (one way). Total distance: Approximately 6–8 km (round trip).
The trek starts from Yelbong village, about 3–4 hours’ drive from Siliguri or 2 hours from Kalimpong.
Winter & Spring (October–April): Ideal weather and clear views. Monsoon (June–September): Lush greenery and gushing waterfalls, but trails can be slippery.
Summer (March–June): 15°C – 25°C Winter (November–February): 5°C – 15°C
No special permits are required. However, some local guides or homestays may charge a small entry or eco-tourism fee.
