Reaching Hanle Retreat in the remote village of Punguk is part of the adventure and rewards you with stark Himalayan landscapes along the way. From Leh Airport (approx. 326 km) - By Private Taxi: The most comfortable and flexible option. Hire a taxi directly from Leh to Hanle via Karu – Upshi – Chumathang – Nyoma – Loma. The journey usually takes 8–10 hours depending on road and weather conditions. A private car lets you stop for photos, meals, and short walks along the Indus River. - By Shared Jeep: Budget-friendly and popular with long-distance travelers. Shared jeeps to Nyoma or nearby hubs can be arranged from Leh’s main taxi stand; from there, you can find local connections onward to Hanle. This option can take longer and may be less predictable, but it offers a more local travel experience. - By Bus: Occasional buses operate from Leh towards Nyoma and surrounding villages. Schedules can be limited and seasonal, so check timings locally in Leh. Onward travel from the last bus stop is usually by shared jeep or taxi. From Chandigarh Railway Station (approx. 953 km) - By Rail + Road: Travel by train from Chandigarh towards Jammu or direct to stations serving the plains of North India, then continue by road to Leh via Manali or Srinagar. From Leh, follow the same onward route to Hanle by taxi, shared jeep, or bus. This route is best suited to travelers planning an extended Himalayan road trip. Road Conditions & Travel Tips - Roads beyond Leh are high-altitude, often narrow, and can be affected by weather. Plan for an early morning departure from Leh to reach Hanle in daylight. - Carry sufficient cash, warm layers, sunscreen, and water; services are limited in the higher stretches. - Always confirm any required permits for the Hanle region in Leh before starting your journey. On Arrival Hanle Retreat is accessible by road within the village area of Punguk, with on-site parking available for self-driven vehicles and hired cars. The property’s reachability, even in such a remote setting, makes it a practical base for exploring this quiet corner of Ladakh.
